The Bridge meet Monday night to address the remaining shore side events in light of the coronavirus situations and governmental restrictions.
At present, we have the following events planned:
3/28 Women’s Cruise meeting
4/4 Cooking Aboard at Bedford Community Center
4/16 Marion-Bermuda preparation seminar
4/24 Salem Pub night
5/9 Spring Dinner
The upshot is that all the in person land events, including the Spring Dinner, will be cancelled. We hope to schedule the Cooking Aboard seminar in the Fall. The Marion – Bermuda preparation seminar will be a virtual seminar utilizing Go to Meeting. View the Event Calendar for details.
In the past, the Spring Dinner provided an opportunity to promote the summer cruises, and to that end, we will include a handout on each cruise with the mailing of the handbook.
We are hoping for the best, but preparing for difficult times. Until then, we remain the Blue Water Sailing Club - Good Times, Good Sailing, and Good Friends!
Colder weather is here and that means it is time to plan to attend our on-land events and to start thinking about participating in our on-water cruises.
Our first on-land event this season is a social event, one of our Pub Nights. It is scheduled for December 11 at the Sea Dog Brewery located at 5 Water Street, Exeter, New Hampshire. It is an opportunity to meet other members of the club in a very informal atmosphere for drinks and optional dinner, always a fun evening.
January 25, we have John and Marcia Slingerland, with transatlantic mate Chip Gavin, who will present a video and slideshow about crossing the Atlantic from November 2017 to September 2019. We will hear all about their travels aboard the sailing vessel AVOCET to Croatia via the Caribbean Islands, Bermuda, the Azores and the countries in the Western Mediterranean. Be sure to watch the Beacon or our event calendar for details. Non-members are welcome to attend. If you have any ideas for a seminar, would like to volunteer to present or help coordinate an event, reach out to our Rear Commodore, Dennis McKay, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Planning is also under way for the summer sailing events. We will have a women’s only cruise, a southern cruise coinciding with the celebration of the 400th year of the Mayflower sailing, a Maine cruise exploring many different islands, and a cruise south of the Cape Cod Canal in the fall. Volunteering to help the cruise planners is always welcome. Contact our Vice Commodore, Bernie Coyne, at email@example.com, if you have any questions or interest in helping out.
