Founded in 1959 by a group of enthusiastic sailors, the Blue Water Sailing Club dedicates itself to safe cruising, racing, boating education, and good fellowship among its members. We are a family organization with over 300 members. While centered in Eastern Massachusetts, our members sail the waters of New England, New York, Chesapeake Bay, the Carolinas, and Florida. The Club, run entirely by our members, is an affordable way to belong to a recognized yachting organization.

July

It’s high sailing season and the Marion Bermuda Race is behind us. Our Club had 9 entries and claimed a lot of the stage at the awards ceremony at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club where all participants and guests were entertained and feted. Roy and Gail Greenwald aboard Cordelia were the Overall winners and won Class D. Gail was awarded the Navigator’s trophy for her celestial work. Bob Buck on Abigail was the Class A Winner, Pete Torosian on Pinnacle locked up Class C and Anne Kolker, skipper of Etoile and its all female crew, issued a challenge for more women to enter the race. Lastly BWSC Team A, Cordelia, Abigail and Murray Beach’s Meridian took home the team trophy. While claiming no prizes the whole adventure was thoroughly enjoyed by David Urell and crew on Honu , Chip Bradish and team who sailed Selkie home without an engine, Pouchy (yours truly), and Wayne Haubner and Arthur Auclair had to turn Mahina Kai back with a steering failure but should win the most spirit award for showing up In Bermuda with 15 friends and family.

The summer offers lots of opportunity for Good Times, Good Sailing and Good friends. The Club has a pretty full calendar with two southern cruises (July and Sept), the Women’s cruise, and the traditional Maine cruise while Bart Snow and Jack Maul take 4 boats to Newfoundland.

Try to join one of these cruises even if only for part of the time. The camaraderie and bonding that takes place while we are together on the water is unmatched. Friends are invited as well.

Fair winds to all!
