Crossing the Atlantic to Croatia

Blue Water Sailing Club Seminar. John and Marcia Slingerland, with trans- Atlantic mate Chip Gavin, will present video and slideshow about crossing the Atlantic to Croatia via the Caribbean Islands, Bermuda, the Azores and the countries in the Western Mediterranean from November 2017 to September 2019 onboard sailing vessel AVOCET, an Oyster 41. Place & Time: Saturday January 25, 2020 at Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly MA. Social hour starts at 9:00. The presentation starts at 10:00.
About the speakers:
John Slingerland holds a Merchant Marine Master's Near Coastal 50 ton license. As Captain, prior to this trans-Atlantic and Western Mediterranean trip, he has sailed Avocet 3 times roundtrip to Sint Maarten via Bermuda and has sailed his Bristol 32 3 times roundtrip to Bermuda. He has sailed 3 Marblehead-Halifax Races, 3 Heineken Regatta Races, a number of GMORA (Gulf of Maine Ocean) races, and a Beringer Bowl Race. He has 35 years cruising experience on the coast of New England including Nova Scotia, the Bay of Fundy and the St John River.
Chip Gavin holds a Merchant Marine 50 ton Captain's license. Prior to this trans-Atlantic crossing, he has crewed 5 Marblehead-Halifax Races, completed multiple Bermuda crossings, 5 Monhegan regattas, and numerous other New England area races and deliveries on vessels ranging from various Cape Dorys to a J70. He has more than 11,000 nautical miles of offshore, near-coastal, and inland sailboat racing, cruising and delivery experience as crew and captain.
Marcia Slingerland, in addition to sailing Avocet from Lagos, Portugal to Croatia via various points in the Western Mediterranean, has sailed the coast of Maine her entire life on various family boats in addition to sailing the Bay of Fundy, St John's River, the Greek Islands, the BVI and most of the Carribean.
