Colleen Roche P.E. - the New England Navigation Manager of Office of Coast Survey - NOAA, will present NOAA's plans for transitioning the distribution of navigation charts. This presentation will be held on January 11th at the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA from 9am to 12pm. NOAA is specifically soliciting feedback from the boating community. This presentation is an opportunity for all those interested, to learn and provide feedback directly to NOAA . BWSC lead - Lisa Goodwin arranged for this presentation.
ALERT – NOAA, who has been providing our paper navigation charts for years, is now planning to terminate publication of these paper charts. On November 15th, NOAA announced their 5 year sun setting plan for ending updated printed paper charts. In their place, NOAA will develop and make available to the public, electronic (vector based) navigation charts known as ENC’s. Overtime, all of us who use navigation information maintained by NOAA, will be impacted, either by the absence of paper, or by updated electronic information.
NOAA has released their plan, and is requesting feedback from the public until Feb 1, 2020.
