Midcoast Women’s Cruise and Other Shenanigans

July 18th – 25th, 2020

Sat July 18 Pemaquid Harbor

Kickoff gathering will be Held at the Contented Sole, located on the pier             43.52.62N     069.31.56W

Fort William Henry is located here,  an interesting place to explore.  Pemaquid Beach Park is a fairly short walk from the fort.  The park has a beautiful white sandy beach.

Captains can either drop anchor or get a mooring by calling Pemaquid Marine 207-677-2024

Sun July 19 Tenants Harbor

21.9nm                                                                                                                                 43.57.85N     069.12.24W

Tenants is an attractive working harbor.  Moorings are available from Cod End or Tenants Harbor Boatyard (first come basis).  For those not wanting a mooring, there is an anchorage “around the corner”, in Long Cove.

Fresh lobsters from Luke’s, where Fishermen land at one end of the wharf, Luke’s at the other end!  There is also, (believe it or not) the German Clam Shack which serves German specialties along with seafood.

Mon July 20 Seal Bay, Vinalhaven

23.9nm                                                                                                                                 44.05.84N     068.48.02W

This is a beautiful and well protected anchorage.  The wooded, rocky islands near the entrance to the bay are particularly beautiful!  Very possible to see seals.  Also, good swimming!

Tues July 21 The Basin/Barton Island

12.3nm                                                                                                                                 44.04.38N     068.52.71W

The Basin is a magnificent tidal lake cut in the west side of Vinalhaven Island.  We would anchor NE of Barton Island, taking our dinghies into the Basin.

Wed July 22 Rockland

So much to do in Rockland!  The Maine Lighthouse Museum.  The Farnsworth Art Museum. A National Audubon Society visitors’ center highlights their Project Puffin and so much more to do and see!

You can anchor or get a mooring from Journey’s End Marina 207-594-0400

Thur July 23

         Lay Day possibly

Fri July 24 Dix and High Islands

18.6nm                                                                                                                                 44.00.75N     069.04.00W

High and Dix, were important quarries during the 19th century.  High Island is high and densely wooded, with two large granite wharves at the west end.  Dix Island is lower and partially wooded, with a clearing and house at the northwest end. Birch Island is low-lying, treeless, and grassy, with a number of small beaches.

Sat July 25

Farewell dinner/reception @ Coveside Marina and Inn 207-644-8282

26.4nm                                                                                                                            43.50.861N     069.33.367W

Captain John Smith dropped anchor her in 1614 on Christmas day.  Christmas Cove is a very picturesque spot and a favorite of sailors.  Christmas Cove is packed with moorings, so it is doubtful you will find room to anchor.  Call Coveside Marina to get a mooring.
