View from the Bridge
As we find ourselves between the good sailing seasons we can take some comfort in the fast approaching winter solstice which can serve as a “windward mark” with our turning toward the coming spring and getting back on the water. The opportunity for “Good Times, Good Sailing (vicariously) and Good Friends” continues through these darker months as our Rear Commodore, Jack Savage has organized an outstanding set of seminars: the next in January with Roy Greenwald on single handed offshore racing followed by Nigel Calder in February. Also in February Richard and Ellie Scherr are hosting a mid-week ski getaway in Waterville Valley. The Marion-Bermuda Safety at Sea symposium will take place at U-Mass Boston in March. And our Spring Dinner takes place at the Corinthian YC in May.
I encourage attendance at all of these events and also to consider inviting non-members. This is a good time to reach out to fellow sailors, perhaps ones you met last summer, whom you think would be good additions to our club and invite them to join. You can put them in touch with our Membership Chairman, Richard Scherr.
Lastly, Blue Water Sailing Club functions due to the volunteer efforts of all of us. Please step forward and contact Jack Savage on ideas for shore events and Peter Forte, Vice Commodore, for activities you want to pursue when we are back on the water.
Meanwhile the best of the holiday season to all!
